RU to Introduce Coding System for Exam Answer Script Evaluation

Al-mahmud Bijoy, RU Correspondent: Rajshahi University (RU) is set to formally introduce a coding system for evaluating examination answer scripts. The system will be implemented gradually across the university from the 2025–26 academic session.

The initiative will be inaugurated on Tuesday (September 15) through the distribution of coded answer scripts and necessary examination materials to six departments of the university. Acting Controller of Examinations Professor Dr Md Hasnat Kabir confirmed the matter.

According to university administration sources, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Faridul Islam will hand over the necessary materials for conducting examinations under the coding system to representatives of the six departments on Tuesday.

In the first phase, the Department of Islamic History and Culture, Political Science, Social Work, Statistics, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Computer Science and Engineering will receive coded answer scripts.

The university administration said the system is being introduced to ensure greater transparency and impartiality in the evaluation of examination answer scripts. Under the coding system, the identity of examinees will remain confidential, with a specific code used instead of their personal information on the answer scripts. As a result, examiners will not be able to identify the examinees while evaluating their scripts.

Speaking about the initiative, RU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Faridul Islam said, “The use of a coding system for evaluating examination answer scripts is about to begin at Rajshahi University. The necessary answer scripts have already been prepared for all departments of the university. Gradually, coded answer scripts will be delivered to the respective departments at the scheduled time as their examinations approach.”

He further said, “Six departments have already informed us of their examination schedules. Coded answer scripts prepared for these six departments will be supplied tomorrow. Through this, the coding system for evaluating examination answer scripts is formally beginning its journey at Rajshahi University. The introduction of this system will further enhance transparency and impartiality in answer script evaluation and increase students’ confidence in the preparation of examination results.”

Acting Controller of Examinations Professor Hasnat Kabir said, “Students had long been demanding the evaluation of answer scripts through a coding system. In response to their demand, we are formally introducing the system from tomorrow. Initially, it will be implemented in six departments and gradually extended to all departments.”
