Professor Tofazzal Hossain Khan passes away
Professor Dr. Tofazzal Hossain Khan, a retired professor of the Department of Soil, Water and Environment at the University of Dhaka, passed away in Dhaka at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, due to complications associated with old age. He was 84 years old.
He is survived by one son and one daughter, as well as numerous students, relatives, and well-wishers.
Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, expressed deep sorrow at the death of retired Professor Dr. Tofazzal Hossain Khan of the Department of Soil, Water and Environment.
In a condolence message, the Vice-Chancellor said that Professor Khan was a dedicated teacher and researcher. Through his research, he played a pioneering role in expanding education in soil and environmental sciences in Bangladesh and in developing skilled human resources in these fields. He will be remembered for his outstanding contributions to education and research.
The Vice-Chancellor prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed his deepest sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The funeral prayer (Janazah) of the deceased Professor Dr. Tofazzal Hossain Khan was held on Monday, September 14, 2026, after Isha prayers at the Madhubagh Madrasa field. He was subsequently laid to rest at Azimpur Cemetery.
