Cumilla college girl dies of dengue before giving birth
Nur Jahan, a student of the Bangla Department at Cumilla Victoria Government College, has passed away due to dengue before the birth of her unborn child.
She died early Wednesday (September 16) while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) in Dhaka.
Nur Jahan, wife of Jobayer Hossain from Moshagara village in Muradnagar Upazila, Cumilla, was a student of the 2023-24 academic session.
According to family sources, Nur Jahan married Jobayer Hossain a year and a half ago. The family was overjoyed at the news that the couple was expecting their first child. Nur Jahan was nine months pregnant.
Her husband, Jobayer Hossain, said, "Our child was due to be born next month. My wife developed a mild fever last Friday (September 11). Later, as various complications arose, her condition did not improve with treatment in Cumilla. Consequently, as her health deteriorated, she was admitted to Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) in Dhaka for advanced treatment. She passed away there early Wednesday morning."
Meanwhile, the Principal and the teachers and students of the Bangla Department at Cumilla Victoria Government College have expressed their grief over Nur Jahan's death.
Professor Md. Moshiur Rahman Bhuiyan, Head of the Bangla Department, said, "Our beloved student Nur Jahan was a very well-mannered young woman. Beyond her studies, she used to participate in various departmental events. We are deeply saddened by the news of her death."
A delegation of college teachers attended her funeral prayer (Janaza) at her village home after the Zuhr prayers.
College Principal Professor Abul Bashar Bhuiyan stated, "The untimely death of such a talented student is truly tragic. We, the college family, pray for the salvation of her soul and extend our deepest condolences to her family."
