Kamrul Ahsan made new  SB chief

Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, a DIG at Police Headquarters who was recently promoted to the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police (Additional IGP), has been appointed as the head of Bangladesh Police's Special Branch (SB). At the same time, five other officers holding the rank of Additional IGP have been transferred and appointed to various positions.

The reshuffle was announced in a notification issued on Thursday (17 September 2026) and signed by Tawsif Ahmed, Deputy Secretary of the Police-1 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to the notification, Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, who was promoted to the rank of Additional IGP, has been appointed as the chief of SB. G. M. Azizur Rahman, Principal of the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarda has been transferred to head Tourist Police, while Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, DIG of Khulna Range, has been transferred as DIG of Dhaka Range.

Meanwhile, the current SB chief, Sardar Nurul Amin, has been transferred to Police Headquarters, while Mainul Hasan, chief of Tourist Police, has been transferred to serve as Principal of the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarda.

In addition, Iqbal Hossain, DIG of Dhaka Range who was recently promoted to the rank of Additional IGP, has been appointed to Police Headquarters.
Kamrul Ahsan previously served as DIG (Confidential) at Police Headquarters. He earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture from Bangladesh Agricultural University and later obtained an MBA from Southeast University.

 He joined the Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1991 through the 12th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations.
