Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has said that. The National Consumer Rights Protection Department will be strengthened in terms of technology. Manpower and institutional capacity with a view to ensure unadulterated products. He made the remarks at the National Consumer Right Protection Directorate conference room on Thursday while engaged a view exchange meeting with the high officials of the department.
He further said that, it is an important responsibility of the state that, a person is not forced to buy contaminated, low quality or harmful products with his hard earned money. The role of this department is very crucial in protecting the consumer rights of the country’s 170 to 180 million people .So initiatives will be taken gradually to bring prevailing services to the digital platform, he added.
Commerce Minister however elaborately came up and said again that, an initiative will be taken to conduct research by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) on the structure, manpower and service activities of consumer rights protection organizations in different countries of the world to utilize international experience. In addition, in line with the research recommendation the activities of the department will be made more extensive and people friendly as well as several new initiatives to be taken very soon so that consumers can get the services more easily and effectively, he added.
The meeting was presided over by the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate DG Md. Zahirul Islam. Commerce Secretary Md. Ataur Rahman Khan and EPB Vice Chairman Mohammad Hasan Arif were also spoke at the event.
