ShahvonJamaly Open Tennis begins
ShovonJamaly Open Tennis tournament, organised by the Bangladesh Tennis Federation (BTF), kicked off on Friday at the National Tennis Complex in Ramna in the capital.
Some 200 tennis players from across the country have so far completed registration for the tournament.
Notable clubs represented in the competition include the National Tennis Complex, BKSP, Jhalokathi Tennis Club, Rajshahi Tennis Club, Sylhet Tennis Club, Madaripur Tennis Club, Jamalpur Tennis Club, Magura Tennis Club, Shariatpur Tennis Club, Gulshan Youth Club, Gulshan Club, Uttara Club, Officers Club, Engineers Club and others.
The tournament feature four events - men's singles, men's doubles, women's singles and women's doubles.
Members of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Tennis Federation are working diligently to ensure the smooth conduct of the tournament.
The closing and prize-giving ceremony of the tournament will be held on September 25 at the same venue. The name of the chief guest will be announced shortly.
In this regard, a press conference was held on Thursday at the conference room of BTF to provide all the details of the meet.BTF president Shofiqul Islam Sarkar, its general secretary Imtiaz Ahmed (Karen), BTF treasurer MA Jinnah, tournament referee Ali Akbar and Zedandzed IT Service managing director Mouwammar Ahmed, among others, were present in the press conference. In the men's singles event, the prize money is set at 100,000 Taka for the champion, 50,000 Taka for the runner-up, 25,000 Taka for semifinalists, 12,500 Taka for quarterfinalists, 6,250 Taka for the Round of 16, and 3,125 Taka for the Round of 32. Additionally, in men's doubles, the champion will receive 50,000 Taka, the runner-up 25,000 Taka, semifinalists 12,500 Taka, quarterfinalists 6,250 Taka, and those reaching the Round of 16 will get 3,125 Taka. The prize money for women's events has been set slightly lower than that for men's events. Organizers explained that the men's events feature a larger number of players, requiring them to navigate a more competitive field. whereas the level of competition is lower in the women's events; hence the slightly lower prize money.
However, the amounts remain substantial.
For women's singles, the prize money is 50,000 Taka for the champion and 25,000 Taka for the runner-up. In the women's doubles event, the champion will receive 25,000 Taka, and the runner-up will receive 12,500 Taka.
