Three detained over Apratim murder
Police on Saturday detained three people for questioning over the murder of a 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Aparthim, the only son of KM Firoz Shahriar and Dr Nahida Begum, an associate professor of the Bangla Department at Comilla University.
Mohammad Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Cumilla Sadar South Police Station, said the three were detained for questioning as part of the investigation. The detainees were identified as Tuhin, Anas and Fahim.
"Tuhin was arrested at around 3:30pm on Saturday. CCTV footage showed Tuhin with Apratim in the Comilla University campus area, where they stayed for about an hour," the OC said.
Anas was detained around 7pm, while Fahim was picked up approximately half an hour later, he said.
"The suspects Tuhin, Anas and Fahim have been detained for questioning. Our drive is currently ongoing," he added.
The body of Oprotim, who had been missing since Friday, was recovered from a jungle in the Kotbari area of the Cumilla district on Saturday.
According to police, Oprotim left his home in the Kotbari area under Sadar Dakshin Police Station around 3:30pm on Friday, carrying his mother's iPhone to take photographs with his friends.
He did not return home, prompting his father to file a general diary with Sadar Dakshin Police Station on Friday night.
Police later recovered his body from the jungle.
"The boy had severe injury marks on his head. We are investigating the incident," the OC said.
