Gas supply to national grid from Titas-28 well starts
Amid ongoing energy crisis in the country, supply of 12.5 million cubic feet gas from Titas Field's Well No. 28 in Brahmanbaria has started to the national grid.
Anindya Islam Amit, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, inaugurated as chief guest the gas supply operation on Saturday (19 September).
Brahmanbaria-3 MP Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce, and Md. Ziaul Hoque, Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, attended the ceremony as special guests.
Drilling for the Titas-28 well, located at the 'C' location of the Titas Gas Field in the Suhilpur area of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila, began on December 15 last year. Subsequently, on June 19, the well began supplying gas to the national grid on a trial basis. During this trial period, gas worth about Taka 200 crore was added to the national grid.
The well has a depth of 3,601 metres (about 13,000 feet), and the cost of drilling it was around Taka 200 crore.
Anindya Islam Amit said the ongoing gas crisis must be addressed by increasing local production alongside importing gas.
Jasim Uddin Munna, project director of Titas-28, said the well has a wellhead shut-in pressure of 3,600 psi and a flowing pressure of 2,100 psi.
He said the well is expected to produce gas for a long period. At present, 12.5 million cubic feet of gas will be extracted daily and supplied to the national grid.
