MP Gazi Nazrul's wife found dead

The hanging body of Mariyam Khatun (19)-the second wife of GM Nazrul Islam, the controversial Member of Parliament for the Satkhira-4 constituency from Jamaat-was recovered from a flat at the NAM Bhaban in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

Police arrived at the scene around 7:00 PM on Sunday (20 September 2026) after receiving the report.

Mariyam's body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in one of the rooms of the NAM Bhaban apartment. Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating, "We are currently at the scene. It is suspected that she committed suicide."

Further details will be provided later. Public discussion regarding GaziNazrul Islam arose last July after a video showing him in "intimate moments" with a woman circulated on social media.

At that time, he had identified the woman in the video as his second wife.

Subsequently, GaziNazrul Islam was expelled from Bangladesh Jamaat-E-Islami on charges of moral turpitude. The party announced the decision to expel him on July 22 this year.
