Six police officers sacked over misconduct, absence
The government has dismissed six police officers over allegations of "misconduct and desertion".
They include former Dhaka Police Superintendent Md Asaduzzaman and Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) officer Mohammad Sanwar Hossain.
The other four are former Sirajganj Police chief Arifur Rahman Mondal, former deputy commissioner of the Secretariat Security Division Rajib Das, former additional DIG Mohammad Zayedul Alam and additional police superintendent Palash Ranjan De of the Armed Police Battalion.
The home ministry issued separate gazettes on Monday.
All six had been absent from their workplaces for prolonged periods without permission, according to the ministry.
As they offered no explanation, their absence was classified as "misconduct and desertion" under government service rules. According to Asaduzzaman's dismissal order, he joined the Sarda's Police Academy on Sept 17, 2024 after being attached there on Aug 27. He then took four days' leave until Sept 21 and never returned.
Sanwar joined the Barishal Range on Dec 2, 2024 after being transferred there from the ATU. He has been absent without notifying authorities since Jan 1, 2025.
Arifur joined the Barishal Range on Sept 9 and has been absent without permission since Feb 19, 2025.
Rajib, promoted as a supernumerary police superintendent, was attached to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Headquarters from the Secretariat on Sept 1, 2024.
He travelled to Thailand on Oct 12 on 20 days' medical leave but failed to return on Nov 2.
Zayedul was absent from his workplace from Nov 4, 2024 after being attached to Rangpur Range from the APBN training centre in Khagrachhari.
Palash has been absent without permission since Aug 12, 2025 while serving with Sylhet APBN.
The gazettes said attempts to contact them after the prescribed period brought no response, amounting to serious negligence of duty and breaches of discipline.
