Malta's Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Dr. Chris Fearne had a meeting with 81st President of the United Nations General Assembly Dr. Khalilur Rahman on 22 September 2026 during the high-level opening session in New York.
They exchanged views on reinforcing multilateralism emphasizing the need for sustained dialogue and deeper cooperation among UN member countries to navigate the present world's fragmented geopolitical landscape.
Dr. Chris Fearne reaffirmed Malta's stance as a "neutral fair broker," underscoring that as global instability grows, the UN's leadership must be stronger than ever.
Echoing Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela's vision, Dr. Chris Fearne reiterated his country's standing offer to serve as a physical and diplomatic venue to host and support peace negotiations between conflicting parties. Malta remains committed to multilateral governance, global trust and constructive dialogue on the world stage, Dr. Chris Fearne commented.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman extended warm greetings to Dr. Chris Fearne and thanked the Maltese minister for making time for the meeting. Dr. Khalilur Rahman expressed hope that the existing friendly ties between Bangladesh and Malta will become all the more consolidated in days to come.
