Swapon urges journalists to maintain objectivity
Prime Minister's Political Adviser ZahirUddinSwaponon Friday said journalism is not limited to dedication and professional responsibility rather ethics, patriotism and love for humanity are essential qualities for those engaged in the profession.
"Journalists must report news truthfully and objectively out of their commitment to society and the state," he told the publication ceremony of a weekly newspaper GournadiParikrama at Gournadiupazilaparishad auditorium in Barishal, BSS reports.
Swapon, also former information and broadcasting minister, called upon the journalists to work for the welfare of the people while upholding professional integrity, ethical values and patriotism.
He said objective, impartial and responsible journalism plays an important role not only in exposing social irregularities, misconduct and corruption but also in promoting development, progress and positive change.
Johurul Islam Zahir, editor of the newspaper and president of the Gournadi Press Club, chaired the event while local administrative officers and BNP leaders and dignitaries were present.
