'Doctors, pharmacists should work together to ensure quality healthcare'
Health and Family Welfare Minister SardarMdSakhawat Husain on Saturday stressed the need for doctors and pharmacists to work together to ensure quality healthcare services in the country.
"Alongside medical care, emphasis should be given to ensuring safe and effective medicines, developing skilled pharmacists, and promoting research and innovation to ensure quality healthcare," he said.
The minister said this while addressing a programme marking the World Pharmacists Day and a reception at University of Asia Pacific (UAP) auditorium in the city this afternoon, said a press release.
Noting the growing interest among students in pharmacy education, Sakhawat said enrollment of meritorious students in pharmacy is increasing.
Significant participation of female students in particular is a positive sign for the overall development of the health sector," he said.
Stating that locally manufactured medicines are being exported to more than 160 countries, the minister said Bangladesh's pharmaceutical industry has already found a significant position in the global market.
Bangladeshi medicines have demand and a good reputation in different countries around the world, he said, stressing the need to enhance pharmacists' research, skills and innovative capabilities to further advance the sector.
On the relationship between doctors and the media, Sakhawat said the media and doctors are not adversaries.
"When problems and limitations in the healthcare sector are highlighted in the media, it creates opportunities to address those," he said.
He recalled with respect the contributions and sacrifices of doctors and healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and other health emergencies.
UAP acting Vice-Chancellor Professor DrMohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan chaired the event while Chairman of the Accreditation and Education Committee of the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council Nasser ShahriarZahedi, Dean of Dhaka University (DU) Faculty of Pharmacy Professor DrSelim Reza and Chairman of the UAP Board of Trustees KM MozibulHoque attended the programme as special guests.
