Commitment Expressed to Build Up Rowers for Olympic Games
Over 200 rowers from a broad number of schools, colleges and universities attended a two-days-long training program and received certificates from Bangladesh Rowing Federation top officials on Saturday in Dhaka city. AA
A two days long training program and a certificate distribution ceremony were held at the Roller Skating Complex in Dhaka city on Saturday by the Bangladesh Rowing Federation (BRF). Around 200 participants from a broad number of schools, colleges and universities attended the training session and received certificates from BRF dignitaries.
Editor-at-Large of The Asian Age and retired Secretary Syed Marghub Murshed addressed the event as the chief guest. He admired BRF officials for training up youths with rowing skills and exploring their potentialities to glorify Bangladesh in rowing at different contests at home and on the global stage. Sports are essential for promoting the honour and image of a country, Syed Marghub Murshed further said. He extended compliments to BRF President Shoeb Chowdhury for undertaking strong and dedicated initiatives to drive forward rowing across Bangladesh by involving youngsters.
BRF Vice President Khurshid Alam applauded the boys and girls who participated in the training program. He expressed hope that these boys and girls will bring honour and awards for Bangladesh from different international rowing competitions. He stated that practice makes a man perfect and called upon the rowing players to exercise comprehensively with proper hard work to build up prestigious rowing careers.
Editor-in-Chief of The Asian Age Dr. Jesmin Chowdhury praised the young attendees of the training session as a guest of honour. She encouraged the rowers saying that youngsters have the strength and resilience to shine on sports turfs. Dr. Jesmin Chowdhury stressed that the energy, qualities and perseverance of young rowers will someday make Bangladesh famous for sports in the world through the diligence of Bangladesh Rowing Federation. She also laid emphasis on sports for keeping youths away from harmful and illegal activities.
President of Bangladesh Rowing Federation Shoeb Chowdhury affirmed his commitment that BRF will be making the best of its efforts to place Bangladeshi players in rowing competitions in Olympic Games. Shoeb Chowdhury mentioned that Olympic Games include two categories in rowing—one is sculling while another is sweep rowing. 15 gold medals are allocated for rowing contestants in Olympic Games, he informed the audiences.
Bangladesh Rowing Federation will train up players with all latest technicalities, team spirit and disciplines so that Bangladeshi rowing players come up with flying colours at national and international levels, Shoeb Chowdhury further said. He regretted that rowing was introduced in Bangladesh sports arena in 1974 but during last 52 years no solid steps were taken to promote or spread out rowing because of the indifference, carefree attitude and lack of professionalism among the past rowing officials.
However, Shoeb Chowdhury assured that from now on Bangladesh Rowing Federation will be working with sincere devotion, well-ordered practices, integrity and expertise in light of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s determination to advance Bangladesh on sports platforms. Shoeb Chowdhury urged the young rowers to uphold firm commitments and to work hard to perform superbly in rowing contests in days to come.
BRF officials handed over certificates to over 200 individuals who successfully accomplished the training program. BRF Treasurer Al Amin Chowdhury gave the vote of thanks. Other officials of Bangladesh Rowing Federation were also present on the occasion.
The institutions from which students joined the training programs are BRAC University, Padma Government College, Haji Misir Ali Degree College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Salimullah College, Dhaka City Model College, Kobi Nazrul College, Shyampur Government Model College, Narayanganj Government Tolaram College, Government Debendra College, Baruakhali High School, Motijheel Government Boys’ High School, Rajarbagh Police Lines School, Shyampur Multidimensional High School, Bottomley Home Girls High School, Metropolitan School and College, Cambrian School and College, Bright School and College, Manipuri School and College, University Laboratory School and College, Lyceum Cadet School and College and Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrassa.
