Bribe Offer Rejected; Ansar Members’ Vigilance Leads to Seizure of Insulin Syringes Worth Tk 2.86 Million at Dhaka Airport
A total of 1,300 insulin syringes worth Tk 2.86 million (Tk 28.6 lakh) have been seized at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka following the vigilance and responsible actions of Ansar members. A female passenger was detained in connection with the incident and handed over to the customs authorities for further legal action.
At around 12:00 noon on Saturday (September 26), the movements of a female passenger bound for China appeared suspicious at the airport’s Heavy Baggage Gate No. 5. In-charge PC Md. Dulon Mia and APC Golam Rabbani, who were on duty, noticed the matter.
Following their instructions, female Ansar members Mst. Shaheda and Sri Alo conducted a body search of the passenger. During the search, the passenger allegedly attempted to offer Tk 5,000 as a bribe, but the Ansar members rejected the offer.
Subsequently, in the presence of AVSEC authorities, Shift TI Zayed Hossain and Shift In-charge PC Md. Nizam Uddin, the passenger was searched again, leading to the recovery of 1,300 insulin syringes.
Each syringe has an estimated market value of Tk 2,200, putting the total value of the seized items at approximately Tk 2.86 million (Tk 28.6 lakh).
Following instructions from the AVSEC authorities, the female passenger, along with the seized items, was handed over to the customs authorities for legal action. The handover was carried out under the leadership of Shift TI Zayed Hossain and Shift In-charge PC Md. Nizam Uddin.
At important facilities such as Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Ansar members continue to perform their duties with vigilance, professionalism and integrity to ensure passenger safety, prevent smuggling and maintain discipline.
The incident, in which the Ansar members rejected a bribe offer and helped intercept a large quantity of goods, reflects their commitment to carrying out their responsibilities with integrity.
