President calls for expanding BOU's distance learning activities

President MirzaFakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for making the distance learning activities of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) more extensive, quality-oriented and up-to-date for students who remain outside the conventional education system.
The President made the call as a delegation of Bangladesh Open University, led by its Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad SiddiqurRahman Khan, paid a courtesy call on him on Sunday afternoon, President's Press Secretary Md. SarwarAlam told BSS.
During the meeting, the BOU Vice-Chancellor conveyed heartfelt congratulations and good wishes to MirzaFakhrul Islam Alamgir on assuming office as the President.
He briefed the President about the university's overall activities, including its ongoing educational programmes for around 350,000 students, Media Centre, academic schools, study centres, educational programmes conducted abroad, and regional and sub-regional centres.
He also sought the President's cooperation in transforming the university into a modern university.
The President said Bangladesh Open University plays a very important role in providing education and developing skills among marginalised and working people, homemakers, students who have dropped out, and people living in remote areas who remain outside the country's conventional education system.
The Vice-Chancellor invited the President, also the Chancellor of the university, to attend the university's convocation to be held next year as the chief guest.
The President accepted the invitation and assured necessary cooperation for the overall development of the university and improvement of the quality of education.
The President's secretaries and concerned senior officials were present during the meeting.
