Bangladesh to face Malaysia in Asia Cup Quarterfinals

Bangladesh get Malaysia as their opponent in the quarterfinals of the Asian Games Cricket Competition after the latter emerged as Group B winners following the abandonment of their match against Oman due to rain.
The knock out match will be held at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin on Tuesday at 11 AM [Bangladesh Time].
Bangladesh and Malaysia have met once previously in international cricket during the 2022 Asian Games quarterfinal in China. Bangladesh defeated Malaysia by two runs in a keenly contested match to move to the semifinals.
Malaysia recently toured Bangladesh and played a series against the Bangladesh High Performance team.
However, Malaysia were scheduled to meet Oman at the Nisshin but persistent rain prevented the match from starting. The teams shared the points, leaving Malaysia top of Group B with three points from two matches.
Hong Kong finished second with two points and will face Pakistan in the quarterfinals, while Oman, with one point, were eliminated.
In Group A, Nepal and Afghanistan secured the remaining quarterfinal places. Nepal's match against hosts Japan was also abandoned because of rain, allowing Nepal to finish top of the group. Japan were eliminated.
Nepal will meet Sri Lanka in the quarterfinals, while Afghanistan will face India. India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan had already qualified directly for the last-eight stage based on their ICC rankings.
The quarterfinals will begin next Monday. Pakistan will play Hong Kong at 6 AM Bangladesh time, followed by India's match against Afghanistan at 11 AM.
Nepal will face Sri Lanka at 6 AM while Bangladesh will take on Malaysia at 11 AM on Tuesday.

The men's cricket team then won silver and bronze in 2014 and 2022 Asian Games. Women's team though didn't win any gold medal, they also won silver in 2010 and bronze in 2014 and 2022 Games.
Women's team however failed to earn any medal in the ongoing Games.
Bangladesh so far won 14 medals in the game with cricket contributing 6 with gold. Kabaddi team however earned highest seven medals but they still couldn't win any gold. The only discipline apart from cricket and kabaddi that earned a medal is boxing.
Bangladesh Captain Liton Das said the cricket team would be willing to support other sports if opportunities emerged through their success.
"We are keen to bring the laurel for the country. If we can achieve the success, it will not only be good for cricket but also motivate the other sports," he added.
Bangladesh have also played two practice matches ahead of the tournament. Liton said the matches gave them a good preparation after a lengthy gap since the team's last T20 international series.
"The preparation has been very good. We got the opportunity to play two practice games," he said. "I think it's a very good preparation."
