Sajek Valley marks World Tourism Day for first time
World Tourism Day as has been celebrated in Sajek Valley in Rangamarti for the first time with a colorful procession, cultural performances and activities highlighting the destination's natural beauty and the heritage of its local communities.
The Rangamati Parbatya District Council organised the programme under the supervision of the Cottage and Resort Owners Association of Sajek, with support from the Bangladesh Tourism Board and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation on Sunday, said a press release.
The day began with a road show from Rangamati to Sajek.
After an inauguration marked by a balloon release, participants joined a procession from Sajek Entry Point to Zero Point, where members of local communities displayed their traditional attire.
The programme also featured a cleanliness campaign, tree planting, a photography exhibition and the inauguration of a traditional food court. The Cottage and Resort Owners Association of Sajek launched its official website.
Rangamati Parbatya District Council Chairman Dipan Talukder Dipu attended the programme as chief guest.
Baghaihat Zone Commander Lt Col Md Tarekul Imran, Rangamati Zilla BNP General Secretary and district council member Advocate Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, and district council member in charge of tourism Shwashata Chakma were among the special guests.
District council member and Cottage and Resort Owners Association of Sajek President Suparna Deb Barman presided over the programme.
In the afternoon, artists from the Lusai, Tripura, Chakma and Marma communities performed at the Sajek Helipad premises. Invited Manipuri artists also presented a traditional dance accompanied by the mridang.
Local residents, tourism entrepreneurs, tourists, media representatives and tourism content creators attended the celebration.
Organisers said the event aimed to draw attention to Sajek's tourism potential by showcasing its landscape, cultural diversity and indigenous heritage.
