Exports rise 8.54 percent in September

Despite ongoing energy crisis, the merchandise export earnings of Bangladesh grew by 8.54 per cent year-on-year to $3.94 billion in September, sustaining the growth momentum of the previous month.

On a month-on-month basis, September's export earnings were, however, 11.11 percent lower than those of the previous month, according to data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) on Thursday.

Bangladesh's merchandise exports continued to demonstrate resilience and competitiveness in the global market, the EPB said in a statement.

The readymade garment (RMG) sector, the backbone of Bangladesh's export economy, maintained its leading position and achieved encouraging growth, the EPB also said.

RMG exports rose by 8.56 per cent year-on-year to $3.08 billion in September, up from $2.84 billion in September 2025.

Earnings for the sector also grew by 6.10 per cent to $10.58 billion in the July-September period of FY27, compared to $9.97 billion in FY26.

Leather and leather products exports increased 20.19% year-on-year, while jute and jute goods shipments grew 22.72%.

Home textile exports rose 13.52%, while light engineering products recorded 3.76% growth during the month.

Pharmaceutical exports posted the strongest growth among the major sectors, surging 64.33% year-on-year in September, according to EPB data.
