Traditional Gur Pukur Fair resumes in Satkhira

The traditional Gur Pukur Fair, one of Satkhira's oldest and most popular fairs with a history spanning nearly 300 years, began on Thursday after remaining closed for two years. 

Satkhira Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ms Kawsar Aziz formally inaugurated the 20-day fair yesterday afternoon. 

Satkhira Superintendent of Police Abu Saleh Md Ashraful Alam, district BNP convener Rahmatullah Palash, member secretary Abu Zahid Dablu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Ripon Biswas and Satkhira Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Arnab Dutta, among others, attended the inaugural ceremony. 

At the inaugural ceremony, it was announced that the fair, which began from Thursday (October 1), will continue until October 20. 

The resumption of the centuries-old fair has generated considerable enthusiasm among people across the district. 

Local residents have expressed satisfaction at the revival of the traditional event after a two-year hiatus.
