State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. AminulHaqueon Friday said the government is making its strides with a commitment to identify new talents from the grassroots level in order to promote sports across the country.
He said a total of 4,599 playgrounds, including mini stadiums in every upazila, will be prepared to spread sports throughout the country while a modern playground will soon be constructed in Dhamrai as well, said a press release.
The state minister made the remarks while addressing the closing and prize-giving ceremony of the "Arafat Rahman Koko Memorial Football Tournament-2026," organized by KalampurJuboSamity at the ValumAtaurRahman Khan Degree College field in Dhamrai of Dhaka district.
He said the government wants to bring about qualitative change in the state through sports. There is no alternative to sports in building a humane Bangladesh irrespective of political affiliation, he said.
Haque assured strengthening of sports infrastructure at the grassroots.
He also expressed his determination to make all BKSPs (Bangladesh KriraShikkhaProtishthan) in the country self-sufficient and operate them according to specific guidelines.
Dhaka North City Corporation administrator Md. Safiqul Islam Khan and TamizUddin, MP, also spoke with Dhaka ZilaParishad administrator YasinFerdousMurad in the chair.
