How UltraLink enables phone-to-phone communication without mobile networks

When we make a call or send a message from a smartphone, we normally depend on a mobile operator's network. The information sent from a phone travels first to a mobile network and then through the operator's infrastructure before reaching the recipient. Internet-based communication similarly relies on data networks to deliver information to its destination.

But what happens when there is no mobile signal?

This is where Infinix'sUltraLink technology is designed to offer an alternative. Instead of relying on a mobile operator's network or the internet, the technology allows compatible devices in close proximity to establish a direct wireless communication link.

When the phone itself becomes the communication link

The easiest way to understand UltraLink is through a simple example.Imagine two members of a hiking group moving apart in an area without mobile coverage. Under conventional communication systems, they would not be able to call or message each other through the cellular network.

With UltraLink-enabled devices, however, the phones can establish a direct device-to-device connection when they are within the supported range.
The communication path is therefore much simpler: phone to phone, without a mobile tower or internet connection in between.

How does the connection work?

When UltraLink is used, a phone searches for compatible devices nearby and establishes a direct wireless link with them. Once the connection is established, supported types of information can be exchanged through that link.

This is different from a conventional mobile call, where the phone communicates with a carrier's base station before the signal reaches the other user. It is also different from ordinary Wi-Fi connectivity, which typically depends on a router or access point. The key difference is the direct communication between two compatible devices.

As a result, having a SIM card or an active mobile subscription is not enough on its own to determine whether UltraLink can be used.
