Seven passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed after being crushed by a bus in Mymensingh on Friday.
The accident occurred around 1:15 PM in the Purbo Gandropa area in front of Bangladesh Bank in the city''s Akua Bypass area.
Four of the deceased have been identified as Minan, 5, son of Kabir Hossain of Dari Hamidpur in Jamalpur Sadar upazila; Rashida Begum, 80, wife of Majum Ali from the same village; Mofazzal Hossain Lebu Mia, 54; and his daughter Marjina, 25. Efforts are underway to identify the remaining 3 victims.
Confirming the deaths, Mymensingh Kotwali Model police station Officer-in-Charge Shibirul Islam said a Rajib Paribahan bus travelling from Dhaka to Jamalpur collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from Muktagachha.
Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed that all 7 victims died at the scene.
The accident occurred when the Jamalpur-bound bus collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in the Gandrapa area of Mymensingh Sadar.
The auto-rickshaw was badly damaged in the collision.
Police and Fire Service personnel reached the scene after receiving the information and recovered the bodies. Traffic movement on the road was disrupted after the accident but has since returned to normal.
The Rajib Paribahan bus and the auto-rickshaw involved in the accident are in police custody. Necessary legal procedures, including preparation of the inquest reports of the deceased, are underway.
Traffic movement on the road is currently normal.
