A four-year-old child was allegedly lured with chocolate and taken to a bathroom at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur, where an attempt was reportedly made to render the child unconscious. Ansar members later conducted a search operation and rescued the child in an unconscious state, handing the alleged suspect over to police.
The incident reportedly took place at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday (October 3) at the surgery ward on the hospital’s eighth floor. The child, Debadrita Das, was visiting the hospital as her maternal grandfather was admitted there.
According to the complaint, a man identified as Liton Mia allegedly lured the child with chocolate and took her to a bathroom on the eighth floor. After learning about the incident, the child’s mother, Jobarani Das, reported the matter to hospital authorities from the third floor.
Following the complaint, a patrol team led by PC Md. Golam Mostofa, along with APC Md. Uzzal Hossain and Ansar members Md. Sujon Mia and Md. Shakil Haque, immediately launched a search for the child.
After nearly two hours of searching, the team rescued the child from Liton Mia at around 4:30 a.m. from a toilet on the eighth floor. The child was found unconscious and was reportedly unable to speak at the time of the rescue.
A quantity of cannabis and two mobile phones were reportedly recovered from Liton Mia.
Liton Mia, who was detained in connection with the incident, is the son of the late Abul Hossain of Hotapara area in Joydebpur, Gazipur Sadar.
Police have begun the process of taking legal action over the incident.
