The Bangladesh Association ofPublicly Listed Companies (BAPLC) and the Bangladesh Merchant BankersAssociation (BMBA) jointly organized a seminar titled “The Future-ReadyInvestor: Strengthening Resilience, Managing Digital Risks and Investing withConfidence” today at the DSE Multipurpose Hall, Dhaka, as partof the observance of World Investor Week 2026.
World Investor Week is anannual global investor-education initiative of the International Organizationof Securities Commissions (IOSCO), aimed at promoting investorawareness, financial literacy, investor protection and informed investmentdecision-making.
The seminar brought togetherrepresentatives from the regulatory bodies, stock exchanges, merchant bankingand capital market institutions, academia, listed companies and investors todiscuss the evolving investment landscape and the challenges and opportunitiesfacing investors in an increasingly digital financial environment. Students of the Faculty ofBusiness Studies, University of Dhaka, also attended the programme, providingthem with an opportunity to gain practical insights into the capital market,investment decision-making and investor protection.
Mr. Masud Khan, FCA, FCMA,Chairman, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC),attended the programme as the Chief Guest.
The programme was alsoattended by Mr.Md. Nafeez Al Tarik, CFA, FRM, Commissioner, BSEC; Mr. Mominul Islam, Chairman,Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE); and Mr. AKM Habibur Rahman, Chairman, ChittagongStock Exchange (CSE) as Special Guests.
Mr. Md. Mominul Haque,CFA, Managing Director, Southeast Bank Capital Services Ltd.,delivered the keynote presentation, highlighting the importance of informedinvestment decisions, understanding market risks and developing a long-terminvestment perspective.
A panel discussion was heldas part of the seminar, featuring Prof. Al-Amin, Acting Dean, Faculty of BusinessStudies, University of Dhaka; Mr. Mohammed Shafiul Azam, ED, BSEC; Dr. Md.Asifur Rahman, CTO, DSE; and Mr. Iftekhar Alam, President, BMBA.The panel discussed investor resilience, digital risks, technologicaldevelopments in the capital market, market information and the importance ofstrengthening investor confidence.
In his remarks, Mr. Riad Mahmud, Presidentof BAPLC and Chair of the programme, emphasized that a strongand sustainable capital market requires not only sound regulation and effectiveinstitutions but also informed, responsible and resilient investors. He stressedthe importance of making information-based investment decisions, understandingrisks, relying on credible information and remaining vigilant againstmisinformation, market rumours and digital fraud.
The speakers also highlightedthe need for greater investor education and awareness, particularly among young and new investorsand university students, so that they can better understand thecapital market and navigate the changing investment environment with greaterconfidence and responsibility.
The seminar concluded with acall for stronger collaboration among regulators, stock exchanges, marketintermediaries, listed companies, academia and other stakeholders to create amore transparent, resilient and investor-friendly capital market in Bangladesh.
