Biman signs deal with Airbus for  10 aircrafts

Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Wednesday (7 October) signed an agreement with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus to acquire 10 new aircraft as part of its major fleet expansion programme.

A signing ceremony titled 'Spreading Our Wings Together' was held at a hotel in Dhaka on Wednesday evening, bringing Biman's total contracted aircraft purchases this year to 35, including 25 Boeing aircraft.

The ceremony brought together representatives from the government, Biman and Airbus, including Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M RashiduzzamanMillat, State Minister for Foreign Affairs HumayunKabir, Invest Bangladesh Executive Chairman AshikChowdhury, and Airbus India and South Asia President and Managing Director Jürgen Westermeier.

Biman signed a similar agreement with American commercial airplane maker Boeing in New York last month for 11 aircraft, a deal directly praised by US president Donald Trump.

The latest agreement comes on the heels of a $3.7 billion deal Biman inked with Boeing on April 30 to purchase 14 aircraft, with deliveries scheduled between 2031 and 2035.

Biman currently operates a 19-aircraft fleet comprising four Boeing 777-300ERs, four Boeing 787-8s, two Boeing 787-9s, four Boeing 737-800s, and five Dash 8-400 turboprops.
