Eleven researchers from Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) have been featured in the list of the world’s top 2 percent scientists, highlighting the university’s growing presence in global research.
The list was published on Wednesday based on a joint survey conducted by Stanford University in the United States and Elsevier, a Netherlands-based leading academic publishing and research analytics organisation.
In terms of the number of researchers included in the ranking, JUST secured the top position among science and technology universities in Bangladesh and ranked sixth among all public and private universities in the country.
The ranking was prepared based on several research performance indicators, including the number and impact of published research papers, citations, h-index, consistency of research contributions, and the influence of co-authors.
The recognition reflects JUST’s increasing contribution to international research and its growing reputation in the global academic arena.
Four researchers from JUST were included in the career-long impact category, which evaluates scientists based on their overall research contributions throughout their professional careers. They are Professor Dr. Md Zaved Hossain Khan of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Associate Professor Dr. Md Aminul Islam of the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Professor Engineer Dr. Imran Khan of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and researcher Md Saiful Islam.
Meanwhile, seven more JUST researchers were recognised in the single-year impact category along with the four researchers mentioned above.
They include Professor Dr. Md Mashiar Rahman from the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Professor Shaibur Rahman Molla from the Department of Environmental Science and Technology, Associate Professor Dr. Engineer Md Amzad Hossain and Assistant Professor Dr. Md Biplob Hossain from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Assistant Professor Tariqul Islam from the Department of Textile Engineering, Lecturer Md Tanvir Ahmed from the Department of Physics, and former JUST student and researcher Partha Kumar Biswas.
Speaking about the achievement, JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yearul Kabir said the recognition was a matter of great pride for the university. “Getting our researchers recognised among the world’s top 2 percent scientists is a remarkable achievement. Their dedication, hard work, and long-term commitment to research have made this possible,” he said. The vice-chancellor congratulated the researchers and said the university was committed to creating a stronger research environment by expanding facilities, opportunities, and institutional support.
“I believe JUST will continue to move forward through the collective efforts of teachers, students, officers, and employees. We will continue our efforts to ensure that more researchers from the university receive international recognition in the future,” he added.
