The three-day 12th RAOWA Book Fair 2026, organised by the Retired Armed Forces Officers‘ Welfare Association (RAOWA), began on Thursday, bringing together authors, publishers, readers and book enthusiasts under the theme, “Let Us Befriend Books and Build a Culture of Knowledge.”
On the second day of the fair, three authors associated with Academia Publishing House Limited (APL) took part in discussions on their recently published and other notable works, highlighting the importance of intellectual engagement, education, ethics and literary heritage.
Dr Mohammad Abdul Hye discussed his book, Bonge Farsi Bhasha O Shahitto Chorchar Itihash, which explores the historical development of Persian language and literary practices in Bengal. Prof. Dr Md Mahmudul Hassan spoke about Smart Education, Noitikota O Projukti, focusing on the intersection of education, moral values and technological advancement. Dr Syed Shahid Ahmad, Deputy Director of Academia Publishing House Limited (APL), was also present at the event.
The book fair features retired military officers who have authored books, alongside a range of publishing houses from across the country. A total of 55 stalls have been set up at the venue, offering visitors an opportunity to explore a diverse collection of books and engage with the country’s literary and intellectual community.
The fair remains open to the public daily from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.
According to the organisers, the initiative aims to foster stronger connections among writers, publishers, readers and book lovers. Another key objective is to introduce readers to books written by RAOWA-affiliated authors, their family members and children, thereby providing a platform for their literary contributions.
A range of educational and cultural activities has also been arranged as part of the fair. Book-based competitions, prize-giving ceremonies and art competitions for school, college and madrasa students are scheduled to take place daily at 3:00 pm. Motivational lectures and sessions introducing books by authors and publishers will follow after Maghrib prayers.
The event seeks to encourage reading habits among younger generations while promoting a culture of knowledge, creativity and intellectual curiosity.
National Professor Dr Mahbub Ullah is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony on October 10 as the chief guest.
