Yasser urges peaceful,  festive  celebration of Durga Puja

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury, MP, has called for ensuring security at Puja mandaps, maintaining law and order and upholding communal harmony for the peaceful celebration of Sharadiya Durga Puja.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a preparatory meeting at the Nandail Upazila Parishadauditorium in Mymensinghon Saturday, BSS reports.

The state minister said everyone must play a responsible role in maintaining religious harmony and mutual goodwill during the festival.

He also said the government had taken an initiative to provide women with Tk 2,500 per month through Family Cards to help them become self-reliant, fulfilling its election pledges after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman assumed office.

The Family Cards would be provided free of charge, and no one would have to pay money to receive them, he said, urging people to inform the administration if anyone demands payment.

Emphasising women's economic empowerment, Yasser said sewing machines were being distributed among extremely poor women to help them become self-employed and support their families.

He said the initiative would enable women to earn, build savings and develop small businesses, creating further employment opportunities.

Earlier, the state minister attended a programme at the upazila administration's conference room, where wheelchairs were handed over to persons with disabilities and sewing machines to extremely poor women.

He sought cooperation from all concerned to ensure the effective implementation and continuity of public welfare programmes.

NandailUpazilaNirbahi Officer FatemaJannat chaired the meeting and distribution ceremony.

Officials of the upazila administration and BNP leaders were present.

The UNO welcomed the minister on his arrival at the UpazilaParishad with a tree sapling.
