Tk10 lakh prize money announced for champions as 10 private universities prepare for cricket and football showdown
The ABG University Cup 2026 is set to make its debut under floodlights at ABG Sports City from October 25, bringing together 10 leading private universities for cricket and football competitions.
The champions will receive Tk10 lakh in prize money, while the runners-up will be awarded Tk5 lakh, as the organisers aim to promote sports among young people and strengthen university-level competition in Bangladesh.
The tournament’s logo was unveiled by Sayem Sobhan Anvir, chairman of Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG), marking the launch of the initiative.
Ahead of the tournament, a Captains’ Meet and Greet was held at the ABG chairman’s residence in Bashundhara Residential Area on Saturday night.
The inaugural edition will feature separate cricket and football competitions, with 20 teams representing 10 universities competing for the titles.
The participating institutions are American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), North South University (NSU), BRAC University, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), Sonargaon University, United International University (UIU), Fareast International University, University of Scholars and Daffodil International University.
The organisers said the prize money and competitive format are intended to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their sporting talent in a professional environment.
With cricket and football bringing together university teams from across the participating institutions, the ABG University Cup aims to establish a platform for inter-university sports competition in Bangladesh.
