The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and bKash have jointly organized a series of awareness workshops on cyber security and secure financial transactions for female students of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College and Dhaka University's Ruqayyah and Shamsun Nahar halls.
Around 1,100 students joined these sessions, where officials from Cyber Police Centre (CPC) of CID and External Affairs Department of bKash shared practical insights on safeguarding personal information in digital space and avoiding fraudulent traps in digital financial services.
The sessions highlighted guidelines for the safe use of Mobile Financial Services (MFS) alongside real-life case studies of cyber risks.
Key discussions focused on maintaining strict confidentiality over PINs or OTPs, identifying phishing links disguised as lucrative offers, and reporting suspicious activities promptly through official channels.
Experts also urged participants to fact-check online content before sharing to prevent the spread of rumours and misinformation.
The first session was held at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, engaging around 650 students.
Md Jahidul Islam, Additional DIG of the Cyber Police Centre, CID, discussed various forms of cybercrime, personal data security, and risk mitigation strategies.
Sana Shaminur Rahman, DIG of CPC, CID, graced the occasion as chief guest, while Major AKM Monirul Karim (retd.), EVP and head of external affairs at bKash, was present as the special guest.
The outreach then moved to the University of Dhaka, engaging 450 students across two sessions at Ruqayyah Hall and Shamsun Nahar Hall.
Md Shafiuddin Shaheen, DIG (Acting), CPC, CID, joined both sessions as chief guest.
The events were presided over by Ruqayyah Hall Provost Prof Dr Hosne Ara Begum and Shamsun Nahar Hall Provost Prof Dr Nasrin Sultana, respectively.
Organizers stated that similar awareness workshops will be expanded to other educational institutions across the country in phases.
While advanced technology and active law enforcement are vital, a secure digital financial ecosystem ultimately relies on vigilant, well-informed users.
With this goal in mind, bKash has been organizing regular awareness workshops since 2017 with the law enforcement authorities (Police, DB, CID, PBI) for investigating officials and bKash agents.
Aiming to secure a safer digital future, a dedicated drive has now been launched to educate young students, which will be rolled out across educational institutions nationwide.
