BSS reconstituted with Abdul Hai Shikder in Chairman post

The government has reconstituted the board of directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the state-run news agency, appointing Jugantor editor Abdul Hai Shikder as its chairman.

Abdul Hai Shikder replaces journalist Anwar Aldeen.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued two notifications on the matter on Monday. One of the notifications relieved the existing members of the state-run news agency's board of their duties.

According to the notification announcing the new board, a three-year board of directors has been formed under the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Act to ensure the "smooth management and administrative operations" of BSS.

The BSS board has 12 directors. They are: a joint secretary (press) from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; a representative of at least joint secretary rank from the Finance Division; representatives of joint secretary rank from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the principal information officer of the Department of Information; the managing director and chief editor of BSS, ex officio; Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, editor-in-chief of the daily Manab Zamin; Shamsul Haque Zahid, editor of The Financial Express; Mozammel Haque, editor of Karatoya; Md. Shah Azizur Rahman, head of news at 71 TV; Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, chief executive officer of Osklick; and Didarul Alam, chief reporter of the Bangla section of BSS.

Following the fall of the Awami League government amid the mass uprising of 2024, the interim government reconstituted the BSS board, appointing Anwar Aldeen as its chairman.
