The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) will organise a seminar in Dhaka on Wednesday to mark World Standards Day 2026, bringing together senior government officials and key stakeholders to highlight the importance of standards in ensuring quality, safety and industrial competitiveness.

The seminar will be held at the Officers’ Club in Dhaka at 10:50 am on October 14, according to a press release issued by BSTI.

BSTI Administrator Md Fazlul Haque will deliver the keynote address, while BSTI Director General (Secretary) Kazi Imdadul Haque will preside over the seminar.

The event is expected to provide a platform for discussions on the significance of standardisation in strengthening product quality, protecting consumers, facilitating trade and supporting sustainable industrial development.

World Standards Day is observed internationally on October 14 to recognise the contributions of experts and organisations involved in developing and implementing international standards. Such standards help promote safety, reliability, efficiency and compatibility across products, services and industrial processes.

For Bangladesh, the observance carries particular significance as the country seeks to expand exports, diversify its industrial base and strengthen the competitiveness of locally manufactured products in international markets. Compliance with recognised standards is essential for building consumer confidence, meeting overseas market requirements and improving access to global value chains.

As the national standards body, BSTI plays a crucial role in formulating and implementing standards, testing products and promoting quality assurance across various sectors of the economy.

The seminar is expected to underscore the importance of stronger collaboration among government agencies, industries and other stakeholders in fostering a culture of quality and standardisation in Bangladesh.

BSTI has invited a print or electronic media reporter and a photojournalist to cover the event, highlighting the importance of public awareness and media engagement in promoting standards and quality consciousness.
