Nepal's Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari met LGRD and Cooperatives minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan at Bangladesh secretariat on Wednesday.
During the meeting, they discussed various matters of mutual interests, said a press release.
Nepal's Ambassador said, Bangladesh and Nepal have many similarities in political, cultural, natural, and economic fields.
Mentioning the possibilities of cooperation in the education sector, he said that currently more than 2,500 Nepali students are studying medicine in Bangladesh. The opportunity in this field of education can be further expanded, BSS reports.
Pointing out recent devastating floods in Nepal, the Ambassador said that about 5 billion US dollars were needed for the reconstruction of the flood-affected areas. In this context, he called for Bangladesh's overall cooperation.
In response to Nepal's proposal, the LGRD minister said Nepal is a trusted and tested friend of Bangladesh. Bangladesh always stands by Nepal and will provide all possible assistance whenever needed.
Highlighting the importance of regional cooperation, the minister sought Nepal's cooperation in reactivating and revitalizing the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
He said, if the regional countries raise their voices collectively instead of speaking individually on important issues like trade and climate change in various global forums, then the desired goals will be achieved more effectively and fruitfully.
Highlighting the trade potential of the two countries, the minister requested for increasing trade between Bangladesh and Nepal under regional and bilateral agreements.
If regional trade increases, neighboring countries will get comparative advantages, transportation costs will decrease significantly, and the proper price of goods will be ensured, he added.
During the meeting, both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthen and diversify the relations between the two countries in the coming days.
