State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. MA Muhiton Tuesday said no form of wrongdoing, including the sale and consumption of drugs and gambling, would be tolerated.
Warning drug dealers, he directed the local administration and police to follow a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related activities.
"Many criminals have already been brought to justice, and operations will continue to maintain the law-and-order situation at a better level than ever before," the state minister said.
Dr. Muhit made the remarks as the chief guest at a programme in Shahjadpur Upazila in the district this afternoon, said a press release.
At the event, he distributed 140 bundles of corrugated iron sheets and cash assistance among 70 families affected by river erosion in Sanatani Union during the recent floods.
The state minister pledged to undertake long-term measures to prevent river erosion and ensure quick repairs of roads and other infrastructure damaged by erosion.
About politics, he said, "The politics of the past, with all the commotion and the practice of following leaders around to become leaders, has been buried. If you want to do politics, you have to go to the people, stand beside them in their joys and sorrows and win their hearts."
Criticising opposition and other political parties, Dr Muhit said a political party had no roadmap or constructive action plan of its own.
Instead of talking about the development of the people or standing by them, they remain preoccupied solely with making unreasonable criticisms of the government and others, he added.
The state minister called upon the people to socially reject and collectively resist such "negative politics" that create division and spread misinformation.
Speaking about the development of the health and education sectors, he said the government is committed to reach education and healthcare services at people's doorsteps.
"In particular, the infrastructure and quality of educational institutions are being improved," the state minister said, pledging to ensure proper training and the highest respect for teachers.
"If teachers are respected and receive better training, our children will receive quality education and grow up as responsible citizens," DrMuhit said, adding, at the same time, the quality of healthcare services is being gradually improved to ensure people's good health. Shahjadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabrina Shermeen, Officer-in-Charge of the police station Saiful Islam, local political leaders and eminent personalities were present at the programme.
