From ‘Toofan’ to ‘Projapoti’, Dripto moves forward

Young singer and music director Samyabrata Dripto is steadily expanding his presence in the music industry, from playback singing in Shakib Khan-starrer ‘Toofan’ to composing and arranging Luipa’s latest song ‘Projapoti’.

Dripto made his playback debut with ‘Proloyer Toofan’, the title track of the 2024 film ‘Toofan’, starring Shakib Khan. He has since lent his voice to songs in several films, including ‘Tandob’, ‘Insaaf’ and ‘Dom’. Most recently, he showcased his creative abilities as the composer and music arranger of ‘Projapoti’, sung by popular singer Zinia Zafrin Luipa.

The song ‘Proloyer Toofan’ drew considerable attention after the release of the film’s teaser in 2024, with Dripto contributing to its chorus. At the time, he was a student at Khulna University. The opportunity to sing for one of the country’s much-discussed films marked his first major step into the professional music industry.

More than two years have passed since then, and Dripto has continued to broaden his musical horizons. Alongside playback singing, he has worked on various projects, including a cricket team’s theme song. He has also developed his skills as a composer and music arranger and established his own music studio, Dripto Soundworks. In addition, he has arranged a Rabindra Sangeet album featuring singers from Bangladesh and India and worked with several popular artistes.

Dripto’s musical journey began in childhood with classical music and Rabindra Sangeet. He started composing original tunes while studying at the higher secondary level. Keen to develop his compositions into complete musical productions rather than limiting himself to singing, he began learning music arrangement and mixing.

He taught himself the technical aspects of music production by watching YouTube tutorials. At the same time, he regularly shared cover songs on social media. This practice eventually brought him into contact with music director Naved Parvez, through whom he got the opportunity to work on ‘Toofan’. Dripto lent his voice to the film’s title track. He later sang ‘Hobe Tandob’ for the Shakib Khan-starrer ‘Tandob’. His voice was also featured in the title track of ‘Insaaf’, starring Shariful Raj. Both songs were composed and arranged by Naved Parvez.

Dripto also contributed vocals to ‘Dom’, starring Afran Nisho. The film features a new arrangement of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s timeless song ‘Durgama Giri Kantara Moru’, with Dripto lending his voice to the track under Naved Parvez’s musical direction. The project added another dimension to his experience as a playback singer.

Beyond films, Dripto’s voice has also reached cricket fans. His work on ‘Jite Li Be’, the theme song of Bangladesh Premier League team Rajshahi Warriors, is another notable addition to his musical portfolio.

He has also sung for television dramas. His recent work includes a song for ‘Bhool Namer Phool’, featuring actors Farhan Ahmed Jovan and Sadnima Binte Noman.

Having begun his musical education with Rabindra Sangeet, Dripto has now returned to the genre in a different capacity. He has arranged a Rabindra Sangeet album featuring Indian singer Mekhla Dasgupta and Bangladeshi singers Ayon Chaklader and Mahtim Shakib, among other popular artistes. Composition and music arrangement have long been central to Dripto’s creative interests. His work on ‘Projapoti’ has brought these aspects of his musical identity into sharper focus. Recently released, the song features Luipa’s vocals, with Dripto responsible for its composition and musical arrangement.

Dripto once dreamed of becoming solely a playback singer, but his ambitions have evolved over time. Today, he wants to express himself not only through singing but also through composition and musical arrangement.

“Music is like a language to me. I just want to keep speaking in this language,” he said.
