EU concludes 6th Intra-Dept Moot Court Competition with TBD

The School of Law, Eastern University, and the Eastern University Moot Court Society (EUMCS) successfully concluded the EUMCS presents 6th Intra-Department Moot Court Competition, 2026, held on 16 and 17 October 2026 at the Eastern University campus in Ashulia, Dhaka.

This year’s edition, organized for the first time in collaboration with The Bangladesh Dialogue (TBD), a leading civil society led policy think tank, drew a record 26 participating teams, the highest in the competition’s history, cementing its reputation as one of the most anticipated mooting events among the premier law schools of the country.

The Final Round took place on Saturday, 17 October 2026, which was adjudicated by the distinguished bench composed of Justice Md. Rezaul Haque, Judge, Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Barrister Aneek R. Haque, Additional Attorney General for Bangladesh; and A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean, School of Law, Eastern University. Justice Md. Rezaul Haque also graced the award giving ceremony as the Chief Guest, while Barrister Aneek R. Haque and Aslam Beg Sayem, General Secretary, The Bangladesh Dialogue (TBD), our collaboration partner attended the event as the Guests of Honour.

The welcome address at the closing ceremony was given by Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, Head, Department of Law. Professor. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice-Chancellor, Eastern University acted as the Chair of the Session and the vote of thanks was delivered by A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean, School of Law. Their presence added immense prestige to the occasion and underscored the competition’s standing as a leading platform for nurturing Bangladesh’s next generation of legal advocates.

After a fiercely contested Final Round, the team comprising Rafin Oli Khondaker, Imtiaz Ahmed Patwary and Saidur Rahman emerged as Champion and also secured the award for Best Memorial. On the other hand, the team of Fatema Tuj Johura and Daliya Soikot were adjudged as the Runners-Up. Individual honours were awarded to Kazi Siyam Nishat Latif Ahmmed Badan as the Best Mooter of the Competition, Fatema Tuj Johura as the Best Mooter of the Final and Sadia Islam as the Emerging Mooter of the Competition. The Spirit of the Moot Award was presented to the team of Obaidul Haque, Nukre U Kongney Marma and Mahmuda Akter for their perseverance and unyielding determination throughout the competition.

The moot problem presented a fictional dispute between two sovereign states, engaging participants with complex questions of International Environmental Law, International Watercourse Law, the Law of Treaties, and Customary International Law.

The themes, including the legal interest of states to enforce obligations owed to the international community, the utilization of shared watercourses against environmental requirements, transboundary environmental harm, and the no harm and precautionary principles resonated deeply in the present context, where climate crises and water scarcity demand robust legal frameworks. For Bangladesh, a nation acutely vulnerable to climate change and dependent on shared river systems, these questions sit at the heart of its environmental security and diplomatic priorities.

The EUMCS expresses its sincere gratitude to The Bangladesh Dialogue for its partnership, to the distinguished adjudicators for their invaluable expertise, and to all participating teams for their dedication and rigour. The Society remains committed to advancing mooting excellence at Eastern University and to fostering a culture of legal scholarship, advocacy, and professional integrity among the law students of Bangladesh.
