Shamim Chowdhury honoured for sports journalism
Driven by a lifelong passion for sports, Shamim Chowdhury began his career in sports journalism in the early 1990s. Over the years, he has established himself as a respected sports journalist across print, online and digital media. His investigative reporting has earned him the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) award for Best Sports Reporting on six occasions. Beyond journalism, he has built an extensive archive of sports research, records and data, reflecting his longstanding commitment to documenting and preserving the history of sports. Daily Sun sports editor Shamim Chowdhury has received a special award for his outstanding contribution to sports journalism from online news outlet Bangladesh Mail24.news.
The award was presented by Bangladesh Mail24.news chief editor A B Ziauddin and editor Rashed Talukder at a ceremony marking the outlet's third anniversary and honouring distinguished personalities at the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) auditorium on Friday.
Shamim was recognised for his 34 years of service in sports journalism, particularly his contribution to research-based and fact-driven reporting.
Bangladesh Mail24.news's editor and chief editor expressed hope that the awards would recognise the work of professional journalists while encouraging responsible, research-based journalism.
