Police suspects third party instigation behind labor unrest

Law enforcement agencies suspect third party instigation behind the unrest at different parts of the country in the readymade garments (RMG) sector demanding minimum wage of Taka 30,000.

Some of the RMG workers are still continuing the demonstration at different parts of the country even after the government formed a  minimum wage board to show respect to the workers' demand.

Talking to BSS Industrial Police Chief and Additional Inspector General of Police Gazi Jashim Uddin sees third party instigation in the labour unrest.

He said the government has already formed a minimum wage board for the RMG workers as part of the move to solve the issues, adding that despite the step some of the workers are still demonstrating at different parts of the country with mala-fide intention.

"It is assumed that third party instigation is behind the demonstration," he said.

He said prior to forming the  minimum wage board for RMG workers, the police tried time and again to calm the agitating workers saying that the government has been working to announce the minimum wage board for them.

Despite the repeated police call, some of the RMG workers held violent demonstration which indicates third party instigation, he opined.
The RMG workers have been agitating for the last couple of days for demanding minimum wage of Tk 30,000. As part of the move, the RMG workers took to the streets at different parts of the country particularly in Dhaka, Gazipur and Tangail and held violent protests.

At Pallabi, the agitating workers today set a police vehicle on fire. Three police personnel suffered injuries in Gazipur in the protest.
The Industrial Police Chief GaziJashimUddin said they have shown maximum patience and use minimum force to tackle the violent protests aimed at protecting the factories from attacks and agitated workers as well.
