Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Anisul Huq stated that the government is working to build a healthy and prosperous nation by keeping the youth away from drugs through sports.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the 'Dhaka Metropolitan 2nd Division Volleyball League 2026,' held on Sunday at the Shaheed Noor Hossain National Volleyball Stadium in Purana Paltan, Dhaka.
The Law Minister emphasized that to protect the youth from the devastating impact of drugs, they must be brought back to the playing fields. Drug addiction destroys families, the environment, and society at large. By engaging in sports alongside their academic pursuits, young people can steer clear of drugs. With this objective in mind, the government has prioritized the development of sports.
He noted that athletes play the most critical role in the development and promotion of sports. While guests can offer encouragement through their presence and applause, the primary responsibility for advancing sports lies with the athletes themselves. The Volleyball Federation requires the dedication, hard work, and sincere efforts of its players to move forward.
The Law Minister further remarked that the involvement of former athletes-including those now established in various other professions-with the Volleyball Federation is a promising development. Their experience and engagement will be instrumental in nurturing the next generation of athletes. Everyone must work collectively to build a bright future for the new generation through sports.
He added that all individuals, regardless of gender, should be provided with the opportunity and encouragement to participate in sports of their choice. Integrating sports with academic education will lay the foundation for building a healthy, conscious, and prosperous nation.
Organised by the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation and sponsored by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Limited, the tournament features volleyball teams from 13 clubs and institutions across the Dhaka metropolitan area.
