Coast Guard intensifies patrols to ensure tourist safety on Saint Martin's Island

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has intensified patrols and surveillance to ensure the safety and security of tourists travelling to Saint Martin's Island, the country's only coral island.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information on Thursday afternoon.

He said the Bangladesh Coast Guard had been consistently carrying out its duties to maintain law and order in coastal and riverine areas, while ensuring overall security on Saint Martin's Island, preventing criminal activities and protecting its natural environment and biodiversity.

As part of these efforts, the Coast Guard has strengthened its patrol and surveillance operations to ensure the safe movement of tourist vessels from the BIWTA Nuniachhara Ghat in Cox's Bazar to Saint Martin's Island.

Regular patrols and intelligence surveillance are being conducted using high-speed boats. Coast Guard ships and boats have also been kept on round-the-clock standby to respond swiftly to any unforeseen incidents or accidents during tourists' journeys.

Coast Guard personnel remain alert to provide necessary assistance to tourists and passengers in case of emergencies, he added.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to protect the island's tourism environment, ensure safe maritime travel and safeguard the lives and property of local residents and tourists.

The media officer also urged everyone to seek assistance by calling the Coast Guard's emergency hotline, 16111, whenever necessary.
