Noted cultural personality Ramendu Majumdar won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sixth Lux RTV Star Award 2016. Ramendu Majumdar received the award at a gala award giving ceremony at the Rajdarshan Hall of International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital yesterday.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu handed over the award to him at the ceremony as chief guest. DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu, actor Syed Hasan Imam, singer Fakir Alamgir, and Imdadul Haq Milon, editor of the daily Kaler Kantho, were there as special guests.
Chairman of RTV Morshed Alam, its Vice Chairman Mohammad Jasim Uddin and CEO Syed Ashiq Rahman were present at the ceremony, among others. The Sixth Lux RTV Star Award 2016 was given in 28 categories including creative director, actor, actress, and singer at the star-studded ceremony.
The awards are given to artistes of television productions aired on RTV from January 1 to December 31 in 2016. RTV aired live the ceremony from 05.30pm. Ramendu Majumdar is a Bangladeshi actor, stage director and theater producer. He was elected the President of International Theatre Institute (ITI) for the second time in 2011.
He was the second Asian to be elected to this position since ITI's establishment in 1948 as an initiative of UNESCO.
Majumdar studied English literature at the University of Dhaka. He co-founded the Bangladesh Centre of the ITI. He is the Chairman of the Dhaka Arts Centre.
He owns a theater group named Theater. As of 2014, the group has produced total 43 plays. He is Chairman and Managing Director of Expressions Ltd, an advertising firm.
In recognition of his contributions, Ramendu Majumdar received Ekushey Padak in 2009.Majumdar is married to Ferdousi Mazumder. She is an actress. Their daughter, Tropa Majumdar, is also an actress.
