The council of the Mohila Awami League, Chittagong city committee was held on Wednesday amid clashes, chase and counter chase between rival groups at King of Chittagong community centre in the port city.  In presence of the Women Affiars Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League and chief guest of the council Fazilatunnesa Indira, the two rival groups led by Hasina Mohiuddin and Nomita Aich locked in clashes.

Police, however, controlled the situation by getting out Nomita Group from the council as they had no councilor cards.  At last the Triennial Council of the Mohila Awami League, Chittagong city committee held and new committee was declared. The council elected the new leaders of Mohila Awami League, Chittagong city committee.

Hasina Mohiuddin and Anjuman Ara Anji elected as president and general secretary of Mohila Awami League, Chittagong city committee for next three years.  The other elected leaders are: Vice-presidents Momtaj Khan, Rowshan Ara Yousuf, Nurun Nahar Motaleb, Rowshan Ara Amin, Hamida Rashid, Tapati Sen Gupta, joint secretaries are Nilu Nag, Rekha Alam Chowdhury, Maleka Begum, Organizing secretary Hosne Ara.

The newly elected president and general secretary will make the committee full fledged as soon as possible, the council decided.  Women Affiars Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League and chief guest of the council Fazilatunnesa Indira declared the names of leaders of new committee in the council.

But, the rival groups of Nomita Aich declared another committee at a press conference held at Chittagong Press Club Wednesday morning.  The rival committee leaders are president Nomita Aich, vice -presidents Tapati Sen Gupta, Ferdousi and Hasina Jafor, General Secretary Rekha Alam Chowdhury, Joint Secretaries Rehena Begum Ranu and Anjuman Ara and Organizing Secretary Morjina Akter Lusy.

The vice president of out-going committee Nomita Aich declared the rival new committee at the press conference held at Chittagong Press Club. As a result, the Mohila Awami League, Chittagong city committee is divided into two groups by declaring the separate committees. The Mohila Awami League, Chittagong city committee failed to play a role in the political movements in Chittagong earlier and the committee was captured by the wives of the Awami League leaders earlier.

It may be mentioned that the last council of the Mohila Awami League, Chittagong city committee was held in 1998. In the last council Nilufar Kaisar, the wife of Awami League leader Ataur Rahman Khan Kaisar was elected  president and Tapoti Sen Gupta elected General Secretary.

But, after the death of the elected president Nilufar Kasir, the vice president of the committee and wife of Awami League leader  A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury discharged the duty as Acting President. Later, after long 19 years, the Triennial Council of the Mohila Awami League, Chittagong city committee was held  and the council declared a committee.
