First ever Bangladesh Botany Olympiad held at CU Vice-chancellor of Chittagong University Prof Dr Ifthekhar Uddin Chowdhury inaugurated the Botany Olympiad in the country titled "Bangladesh Botany Olympiad 2017" as chief guest on Sunday. -AA

Department of Botany of Chittagong University and Bangladesh Botanical Society arranged the first ever Botany Olympiad in Bangladesh titled "Bangladesh Botany Olympiad" 2017 at the Biology Faculty premises of Chittagong University on Sunday.

Vice-chancellor of    Chittagong University Prof Dr Ifthekhar Uddin Chowdhury inaugurated the Botany Olympiad in the country titled "Bangladesh Botany Olympiad 2017" as chief guest. Addressing the inaugural function, Ifthekhar Uddin Chowdhury said, they are very happy for arranging the first ever Botany Olympiad in the country titled "Bangladesh Botany Olympiad 2017" at the Chittagong University campus.

"Our university has created a history by being part of the first ever Botany Olympiad in the country." He said it is fact that the university campus is a save zone for biodiversity. There are many animals, birds and trees at our campus which is situated at a hilly area in Chittagong. "So that Chittagong University Campus is the best place for arranging  Botany Olympiad."

He said, the Botany Olympiad in the country will help us to create awareness among the biologist as well as common people for saving biodiversity, greeneries, forest and environment. "We have to continue our advance researches for upgrading our knowledge on biology including zoology and botany." The inaugural function was chaired by the president of Bangladesh Botanical Society and Prof of Department of Botany of Chittagong University Dr M A Gafur.

Vice-chancellor of   People's University Prof Dr Amin Uddin Mridha, Vice-chancellor of   Port City University Prof Dr Nurul Anwar, Dean of Biology Faculty of Chittagong University Prof Dr Mohammad Mahabubur Rahman, Director General (DG) of National Science and Technology Museum in Dhaka Swapon Kumar Roy, Vice-president of  Bangladesh Botanical Society Prof Dr M Atikur Rahman and Secretary General Prof Dr Sheikh Shamimul Alam and Registrar of Chittagong University Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Huda addressed the function as special guests.

One hundred eminent botanical scientists, 1400 teachers and students from 80 universities and colleges participated in the   first ever Botany Olympiad in Bangladesh titled Bangladesh Botany Olympiad 2017. The seminars, discussion, symposium, question and answer sessions with scientists and students etc were arranged during the olympiad.
