The proposed Chitta-gong Medical University, the second medical university in the country to be set up at Foujdarhat under Sitakunda in Chittagong has got a Vice-chancellor. Prof Dr Mohammed Ismail Khan has been appointed as the first Vice-chancellor of the university on April 11.
Dr Mohammad Ismail Khan passed MBBS from Chittagong Medical College in 1984. He was the principal of Dhaka Medical College and dean of faculty of Medicine of Dhaka University. President of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid appointed him as the first Vice -chancellor of Chittagong Medical University.
The first Vice-chancellor of Chittagong Medical University Prof Dr Mohammad Ismail Khan was born at Mogadia village under Mirerswrai Upazila in Chittagong. His father was Mohammad Akram Khan and mother Hosne Ara Begum. He passed SSC from Mirerswrai pilot High School in 1975, HSC from Chittagong College in 1977. Later, he graduated from Chittagong Medical College in 1984.
He joined as lecturer at Chittagong Medical College in 1988. He obtained post graduation from Sidney University of New South Wales. He discharged duties as a professor at Malaysian University of Science. He was the president of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Chitta-gong Medical College unit in 1982-83.
Dr Ismail Khan urged all for cooperation in discharging his duty as first Vice-chancellor of Chittagong Medical University. Earlier, Health Minister Mohammed Nasim said, after appointing the Vice Chancellor, the formal activities
of Chittagong Medical University will be started."
It may be mentioned that earlier on October 8 in last year, Minister for Public Works Engineer Mosharraf Hossain MP said that the ministry will provide land for Chittagong Medical University at Foujdarhat under Sitakunda in Chittagong. The Chittagong Medical University in Chittagong will be set up on 30 acres of land.
