Hasina was there to inaugurate the 80km marine drive between Cox’s Bazar and Teknaf on Saturday at a ceremony on the beach by the Bay Watch resort.
The sea breeze stirred a sudden sprightliness in the prime minister, after the event drew to a close around12:30pm.
She walked barefoot on the beach, with smiles on her face. She dipped her toes into seawater.
During the event, Hasina reminisced about her childhood visits to the beach with her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The memory of Bangabandhu is inextricably tied to Inani.
In 1958, under military rule, the father of the nation had spent several days in the wooded areas near Chenchori village.
Hasina said efforts would be made to turn Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh’s main resort town, into a lucrative tourist destination.
The prime minister inaugurated Cox’s Bazar’s new airport tarmac on Saturday after she arrived there on a Boeing jumbo jet.
