Shopping Complex overflows with buyers ahead of Eid

The Eid-ul- Fitr, the biggest festival of Muslim community is very near. All are engaged in  shopping  ahead of Eid. With a view to buy something for self or family and the nearest relatives, shoppers are rushing to city's known shopping mall - Chittagong Shopping Complex.

The two storied shopping mall has recently been overflowed with huge shoppers both from the city and its surrounding areas. More interestingly, this shopping mall is seen open till midnight in the recent days without any break.

A sudden visit in and around the shopping mall revealed that huge crowd had virtually changed the usual scenario of shopping mall. Huge crowd has been drawn attention at the shoe corners and outlets of Panjabi, Sharee and kid's clothing. It seems to be difficult for one to make way for entering some outlets mainly designed for Sharees. Shamima Akter, who came from Hathazari told the Asian Age that she bought a pure-shipon Sharee which has been made more attractive for embroidery work.

"I have so far bought only one Sharee because of my limited budget. Meanwhile, price of every item which is vital for Eid is really soaring,"  Shamima Akter said. Traders admitted excess prices of clothing and explaining the causes, they said, they were bared to import cloths from India and they had to pay excessive tax against each cloth.

Sales in-charge at Q&Q Trading Limited in the first floor of the shopping mall Moinuddin Sumon said that they have the collection of various kinds of cloths even for the children's outfits.

"One can buy an item for children at TK 200 to 8000 while male can buy a brand shirt at TK 1550 to TK 6500. Pant, Fatua, T-shirt, shoes, tops, lehenga, panjabi, cosmetics items and ornaments are also available in our collections," he added.

He claimed that they imported their collection cosmetic items from French, Italy, England and America. "We're satisfied with sales trends even in the changed situation, our business is remarkable," Sumon added. Shoppers can go inside Bombay Fashion, Fashion Collection and Ayesha where one can get one's desired cloths. Mohammad Shamim of Gift and Fashion said that they had been doing brisk business by selling kid's items and Panjabi. One can buy a Panjabi at TK 2400 to TK 10,000.

"Shoppers are buying all kinds of Panjabi but cotton-made white Panjabi are being sold remarkably," he added. Crowd at readymade three-pieces has dropped significantly in the last two days. Dress-makers have already suspended welcoming orders so none was seen to buy cloth for making dresses. Cosmetics outlets - Godhuli, Aunupom, Youhan are seen overflowed with female shoppers.

Officials at some shoe-corners - especially Data Bazaar, Bata Bazar, Aramit Shoes are seen in jolly mood and expressed their satisfaction over overall business.

Sports and Cultural Secretary of Chittagong Shopping Complex Shop Owners Association Ahsan Habib said, the market started its journey in 1996 having 400 shops. Currently, 360 shops are operative and the rest remained closed since long. The ground floor of the market had been designed with specialized shops for Sharee, non-readymade garments, crockery and food corners.

Meanwhile, in the first floor, some tailoring shops, readymade garments, jewelry shops and libraries are also available to meet the overall demand of common shoppers. Port city's one of the biggest tailoring shop - Honeymoon Tailors, Lovely Tailors and Lords are also situated at the first floor of the shopping center.
