Veteran film and television actor Nazmul Huda Bacchu has passed away. The 78-year-old died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka's Square Hospital around 4am on Wednesday. Bachchu was down with fever two days before Eid after returning from a shooting spot, said his wife Lina. He was admitted to the hospital on the afternoon of Eid day after his blood pressure fell.
"Heart problems were detected following tests on Tuesday. He died before we even understood what was happening." Bachchu mentored such stars as Bulbul Ahmed and Ujjal over the course of his long career. The actor hit the limelight in '70s and '80s with films as 'Surja Dighal Bari', 'Sareng Bou', 'Behula Lokhindore' etc .
He went on to act in 'Chandrakatha', 'Srabon Megher Din', 'Doria Parer Doulata', 'Chandra Grohon', 'Bidrohi Padma', 'Agyatnama' and 'Runway' He received the National Film Award and various other prestigious prizes for his work. Bachchu lived at a flat in Dhaka's Indira Road with his wife and three daughters.
He was scheduled to be buried next to his father at the Banani graveyard. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu yesterday expressed deep shock at the death of popular musician Nazmul Huda Bacchu.
