Toma to perform in Kolkata

Popular Rabindra sangeet singer Tanjina Toma will perform at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium of Rabindranath Tagore Centre in Kolkata on the invitation of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) on Wednesday, July  5 evening.

"I am privileged to be invited by ICCR to sing on the same stage where I along with a team from Bangladesh performed in 2008 at the inauguration of the Rabindranath Tagore Centre, in the presence of  the then India's Minister for External Affairs, Shri Pranab Mukherjee and  the Chief  Minister of  West Bengal Shri Buddhadeb Bhatta-
charjee", says Toma.

Tanjina Toma has gained considerable popularity in India over the last several years, with her impressive performances in various stage shows and Television programs in Kolkata and Tripura.

Three of her solo albums were released from Kolkata's leading audio houses. These are: Jibon Katha by Cozmik Harmony; Tumi O Ami by SAREGAMA (formerly HMV); and most recently Tomar Shonge by UD series.

Toma has said the pre-eminent Hindustan Records company which was inaugurated by Rabindranath Tagore himself in 1932 has been back to the market again since the last few years. I am working on an album with them, which will be published on the occasion of Baishey Srabon this year.

At the ICCR event, Toma will sing songs on rain, devotion, love and kirtan and baul influenced songs, mostly written by Rabindranath in East Bengal, now Bangladesh.
