Mercantile Bank Limited has awarded 11 eminent personalities and organizations with 'Mercantile Bank Award-2017' for their benevolent contribution to the nation. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed handed over the awarding crests, gold medals and cheques among the selected seven personalities, three organizations and one village as chief guest at a program held on the eve of bank's 18th anniversary at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) on Tuesday.
Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and Governor of Bangladesh Bank Fazle Kabir were present on the occasion as special guests. Chairman of the bank Shahidul Ahsan presided over the program and Managing Director and CEO Kazi Masihur Rahman delivered the welcome speech.
The individuals selected for the award included Mofidul Hoque (freedom fighter and Liberation War-based research), Poet Asad Chowdhury (Bengali language and literature), Chhayanot (culture), Dr. Syed Anwar Husain (education), Dr. Samanta Lal Sen (healthcare), Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury (journalism), Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya (economics and economics-based research), Salahuddin Alamgir, CIP (commerce and industry), Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (science and technology), Shuchona Foundation (social development) and Kolshindur Village (football/sports).
Among others, Vice Chairman AKM Shaheed Reza, Chairman of Executive Committee Mohd Selim, Chairman of Audit Committee Dr Mahmood Osman Imam, Chairman of Mercantile Bank Foundation and Director of the bank Akram Hossain (Humayun), ASM Feroz Alam, Morshed Alam MP, Mosharref Hossain and other directors were present on the occasion.
Sponsors, shareholders, additional managing directors, deputy managing directors, senior executives of the bank, the bank's customers, invited guests and personnel were also present at the event. The award-giving ceremony and anniversary celebration was followed by a pleasant cultural program.
